ABOUT MIKENA
MIKENA KYOTO is an English-based learning facility ran by Australian citizen, Dr. Emily Chung-Moya, who moved from Melbourne Australia to Kyoto Japan in 2019. Emily is a graduate of the Australian education system, and holds a Doctor of Philosophy from University of Melbourne (a top ranked university in Australia). She also holds a Bachelor of Business (Honours), Bachelor of Commerce, Graduate Certificate of Tertiary Teaching and Learning, Diploma of Languages, and Australian Working with Children Permit.
MIKENA was founded in 2018 by Associate Professor Monica Tan Jurin (based in Melbourne, Australia) and Dr. Emily Chung-Moya. Monica and Emily are experienced educators who utilise a variety of innovative and educational tools and techniques to help students build confidence, life skills, and a passion for learning. As parents who are passionate about education, Monica and Emily named MIKENA after their children - Monica's son, MIKail, and Emily's daughter, ENA Coco. Monica and Emily has educated and inspired many individuals inside and outside the classroom.

As an educator at mikena, Emily employs a variety of innovative and engaging educational tools and techniques to help students develop a curiosity and passion for learning, as well as the confidence to put forward the best versions of themselves. Emily runs group classes as well as private tutorials and consultations.
Emily is also currently an adjunct lecturer at Doshisha University, an advisor at the Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, and a guest lecturer at Ritsumeikan University.

As a multiple award-winning educator and researcher, Emily has also helped her students win prestigious awards and prizes, including the international marketing competition, L'Oréal Brandstorm. Emily was a manager of the Bachelor of Business (Marketing) program, and a course coordinator and lecturer for Service Quality, and Applied Brand Management. She has also served as a consultant to commercial clients and projects external to the University. Emily has over 20 research publications, made public presentations in Australasia, Europe, and America, and her work has been cited over 450 times. She has also made multiple media appearances in magazines and on radio.

As a sessional academic staff member, Emily taught Product and Brand Management, Marketing Management, and Marketing Theory and Practice. Emily achieved consistently high teaching scores and positive feedback from her students. Her research assistant work has led to publications in top academic journals.
